The following “fundamentals” are our guide for faith and the practice of our faith:

The Bible: God’s Word to us. Written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Infallible, inerrant. Our only guide for faith and practice.   2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105; 160; 12:6; Proverbs 30:5; Psalm 1

God: One true living God. Creator of all things. Eternally existent in three parts—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Forever, all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present.   Deuteronomy 6:4; Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Psalm 90:2, 139:1-2, 139:7-8.

Jesus Christ:  God making Himself known to us. God’s one and only Son; Our one and only Savior. Born of a virgin; Fully human and fully God. Sinless—offered as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people. Crucified and died on a cross. Raised from the dead  after three days, victorious over sin and death. Ascended to heaven and sits on the throne. He will return to judge all mankind.   John 14:9; Matthew 16:16; Luke 1:34; John 1:1,14; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 Corinthians 15:4; Acts 1:9; Romans 8:34; John 5:28-29

Holy Spirit: Co-equal with God; the third person of the Trinity. At work in the world to show people their need for Christ. At work in every believer from the moment of salvation. Empowers believers  – guiding, directing, helping, equipping, convicting.   John 16:8; Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 12:4-5; John 14:26

Man: Created by God in His image. Supreme object of God’s creation, having worth and value to Him. Sinners by nature, falling short of His glory. Guilty before God, spiritually separated from Him. Lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ  – the Savior.   Genesis 1:26, 31; Romans 7:18; Romans 3:23; James 2:10; Isaiah 59:2; John 14:6

Salvation: God’s gift, coming by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ. One can’t make up for sin through self-improvement or good works. One must accept the gift of grace  – by putting faith in Christ, repenting from sin, confessing Christ, and being immersed in Christ (none of these is sufficient in and of itself for the assurance of salvation).   Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 4:12; John 1:12; Acts 2:38; Acts 17:30; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 6:3-5, 1 Peter 3:21

The Church: The body of Jesus Christ; Christ is the head. Consists of Christians everywhere. Founded on the day of Pentecost and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Elders are the overseers of the local congregation.   Ephesians 4:1-16; Colossians 1:18; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Acts 2; Acts 14:23; 1 Timothy 3:1-7

Eternity: The human soul lives on after death, created to last forever. The soul will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or  eternally with God through salvation. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence. All will go to one or the other based on our response to Christ.   Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7; Matthew 25:31-46; Mark 9:43-49, Luke 16:19; Romans 6:5; Revelation 20:11-21:4; Acts 17:30-31
